Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi was paid 20 million yuan (US$3 million)
for the film Dangerous Liaisons, breaking her own record setting a new
one for the highest paid actress in China, reports our sister newspaper
the China Times.
In addition to Zhang, Hong Kong actress Cecilia Cheung Pak-Chi and
Korean actor Jang Dong-gun are starring in the film. Cheung and Jang
reportedly got 16 million yuan (US$2.5 million) and 15 million yuan
(US$2.3 million), respectively, for the film. This is also Cheung's
highest payment for starring in a film.
The film, whose cost reportedly has amounted to 200 million (US$31.4
million), will be screened in the end of Sept. The Chinese-American
author Geling Yan scripted the film, adapting the French novel Les
Liaisons Dangereuses, a work which has been adapted into several films.
She changed the location of the film to the 1930s Shanghai.
